Discovering the Magic of "Tuesday" Together: A Bedtime Read

Last week, after what felt like an endless day of Lego builds and snack negotiations, I found myself curled up on the couch with my little ones, a cozy blanket wrapped around us like a hug. As we dove into another evening of our bedtime ritual, I reached for Tuesday by David Wiesner. I remembered reading about how, as a child, Wiesner’s imaginative spirit was inspired by the whimsical designs adorning his bedroom walls. Little did I know, his book would spark just as much wonder in our living room that night.

A Dive Into Imagination

Tuesday is a delightful journey through the sky with flying frogs. Yes, you read that right! It begins with a peaceful Tuesday evening, where the mundane melts away as these green friends take flight on lily pads. Wiesner’s world invites readers to explore a realm of enchantment, filled with unexpected twists and whimsical events (think frogs, bikes, and the elusive magic of imagination). My kids were glued to the pages, with wide-eyed wonder and giggles bursting forth as we followed the frogs’ escapades.

What struck me most was the wordless format of the book. It provided us with the freedom to create our own story as we turned each page. My 5-year-old, with her wild imagination, inquired, “Where do you think the frogs are going?” While my 3-year-old simply pointed at the joyful chaos and squealed, “More! More!” It was a celebration of creativity and playfulness that resonated with the essence of childhood.

Illustrations That Captivate

Wiesner’s illustrations are nothing short of breathtaking. Each page is a visual feast, overflowing with vibrant colors and intricate details. The way he captures movement and emotion made it easy for both of my children to get lost in the whimsical scenes. We spent extra moments just admiring the illustrations—the swirls of the night sky, the curious animals peeking out, and the mischievous expressions on the frogs’ faces.

One particular page, where the frogs perch on flying bicycles, brought a cascade of giggles. My son erupted into laughter and proclaimed, “They look so silly! They should wear helmets!” The connection they found with the characters really warmed my heart, turning an ordinary reading session into a shared experience of joy and creativity.

A Lasting Impression

I can wholeheartedly recommend Tuesday to families with children ages 3-7. Whether you have an imaginative storyteller or a curious learner, this book promises to inspire giggles and conversations long after the last page is turned. It has quickly become a new favorite in our household, and I can confidently say it’ll remain in our bedtime rotation.

As I reflect on our evening cuddled together, it’s moments like these that remind me why sharing stories matters. Wiesner’s work encourages us all to dream a little bigger, laugh a little harder, and see the world through the eyes of a child. In our busy lives filled with chaos, Tuesday captures those fleeting moments of magic and connection, making it a cherished addition to our family library.
