Discovering Adventure with Indestructibles: Things That Go!

As a mom, I often find myself in the middle of a bedtime wrestling match, where the stakes are high and the only armor I have is a stack of picture books. Recently, in the midst of choosing another “let’s try this one more time” read, I stumbled upon Indestructibles: Things That Go! by the Indestructibles team. The promise of a chew-proof, rip-proof, and wash-safe book felt like a parenting dream come true. My little adventurers were intrigued, and honestly, so was I.

This delightful book draws your little ones into the world of all things that zoom, fly, and sail. From trucks rumbling down the road to planes soaring through the skies, and even submarines making waves under the sea, the book expertly captures the thrill of movement. The simple structure makes it ideal for babies and toddlers, focusing on bright images rather than lengthy text. My kids, Lily (2) and Max (4), were instantly hooked. They pointed at each vehicle, gleefully shouting out the names they recognized. I loved watching their little faces light up with curiosity as they filled in the blanks.

The illustrations are colorful and captivating. Each page features bold, simple graphics that held my children’s attention much longer than I expected. As I flipped the pages, I saw Max pretending to "drive" a truck while telling me, “Mommy, I’m going so fast!”—a moment that melted my heart. The playful interaction was invigorating, and the few or no words encouraged us to embark on our own imaginative narratives.

One of the best parts? The book is incredibly durable. With our house resembling a mini tornado most days, having a book that survives a drool-fest or an enthusiastic chew is a game changer. After one particularly energetic bath-time reading, which involved a lot of splashing and some surprise sea beast decor, I simply tossed it in the wash. It came out looking as good as new, much like my sanity after a good deep cleanse!

Of course, every parent knows that kids can be wonderfully unpredictable. One night, after reading about the planes, Max confidently declared that he wanted to fly to the moon in “his airplane.” Lily, ever the practical one, chimed in, “But who will drive?” It was these sweet, silly moments that turned reading time into giggle-fests, transforming what could have been another chaotic evening into cherished memories.

In a world where chaos reigns supreme, this book reminded me of the small joys amidst the chaos. Happy reading, fellow parents! 🚗✈️🚢
